Need to Work on Your Time Management? Learn to Set Up a Time Management System

No one in the world is born with great time saving skills. In fact, most people are born with pretty crappy skills. However, fortunately our time saving skills can easily be improved upon with a little effort. If you are willing to put the effort in you could master time management in no time at all. In fact, sometimes all it takes is a simple mindset shift.

When you are trying to improve your time management skills you should try setting up a time management system. By this I mean setting up a mental system that you follow day after day in order to imprint the idea of time management upon your mind. This will allow it to become a habit and thus will never be a problem again.

How to set up a time management system:

The first thing you need to do is decide grab a pencil and paper and start writing. Write about what you want to accomplish, what you need to get done. Then figure out what you need to do daily to achieve those goals.

Write down large goals and then break them down into smaller, more manageable, goals that will eventually lead to accomplishing those larger goals. Then put a time restriction on those smaller goals (be realistic) and write it all down.

Break those smaller goals into daily tasks and set a time restriction on those as well.

Post this schedule near your work space and continually reference it to make sure you are staying on task.

How to use a time management system:

Once you have your time management system set up you are going to need to know how to use it right? Well it is very simple. To use your system you simply need to take some time out of your day and sit down to work. Pick the first task on your system and attack it with laser targeted focus. This means that you close all distractions such as facebook, aim, and youtube. Focus completely on that task and get it done within the time frame you have set. And if you don’t get it done, put it aside and move on to the next task.

The goal of this system is to make sure you stay within you time frames without fail. If you push past your time frames then you will be braking the time management system and it will not force you to become more productive and focused in order to complete the tasks. Just simply put any unfinished work aside and complete them at the end of your system.

The point of this system is to really focus, you will not get anything accomplished if you do not have focus and that is what time management is about. Focusing on one task at a time and getting it done as fast as possible.
